IKEA opening in Portland attracts fanatical shoppers
PORTLAND - IKEA fans started lining up Monday morning for the chance to be the first to shop at the new IKEA store opening Wednesday in Portland.
By midday, about 20 people had already staked out spots in line, setting up tents and chairs and preparing for a 48-hour campout.
The store on Airport Way and I-205 opens Wednesday, July 25 at 8:30 a.m.
The first 100 people in line get a free chair and the first 100 kids get a free heart-shaped stuffed pillow
Mystery gift cards worth up to $250 were also going to be handed out.
On Wednesday morning, there will also be live entertainment and music starting at 6 a.m.
ODOT was warning travelers, especially anyone headed to the airport, to consider MAX or alternate routes.
